The School of Journalism not only serves hundreds of graduate and undergraduate students, but also offers workshops that help high school students and advisers and professionals turning to teaching further their skills.
The High School Journalism Institute
The High School Journalism Institute has been preparing high school journalism students and their advisers for more than 60 years. Each summer, high school students attend five-day sessions to expand their skills and plan their upcoming publications.Next, advisers attend a similar week-long workshop to learn ways to improve their guidance of school publications and to earn graduate credit.

Teaching Fellows Workshop
The Teaching Fellows Workshop helps experienced journalists who are entering the university journalism teaching field learn to be good teachers. Led by seasoned professors, the workshops allow participants to learn about ways to generate discussion, to evaluate students and to function as guides to help their students find their own gratifying careers.Learn more:

Reporting Competition
The School of Journalism and the Scripps Howard Foundation co-sponsor the Roy W. Howard National Collegiate Reporting Competition each year.Winners from colleges and universities around the nation travel to Japan and South Korea to experience journalism in Asian cultures.
