The School of Journalism welcomes dozens of guests each semester, some visiting classrooms and others talking to students and faculty in public sessions.Here's a list of some of the speakers set for spring semester:
- Jan. 25, alumna Emily Hendricks Turnier, former editor of All You magazine, visits lecturer Nancy Comiskey's classes.
- Jan. 26-27, John Blair of ValleyWatch visits lecturers Steve Higgs' and Bonnie Layton's classes.
- Jan. 27, National Geographic photographer Alexandra Avakian gives a public lecture at 7:30 p.m. in EP220.
- Feb. 1, Patricia Hagan, freelance reporter, visits adjunct lecturer Curt Wellman's J200 class.
- Feb. 3, The Washington Post's John Pomfret will talk about China in a public lecture at 5 p.m. in EP220.
- Feb. 7, Wayne Wanta of Oklahoma State University will talk about new research on agenda setting at 4 p.m. in the EP lounge.
- Feb. 7, alumnus Aishah Hasnie, reporter at WANE-TV, visits associate professor Mike Conway's broadcast class.
- Feb. 14, Indianapolis Monthly's David Zivan talks to J360 Creating an Indiana Magazine.
- Feb. 15-16, NPR and PRI freelance reporter Amy Mayer meets with adjunct lecturer Sarah Neal-Estes' audio storytelling classes.
- Fe 16, Bloomington city council member Andy Ruff visits adjunct lecturer Steve Higgs’ C201 Environment in the News class.
- Feb. 27 to March 1, Field and Stream's Colin Kearns visits lecturer Nancy Comiskey's magazine classes and with Inside magazine staffers.
- Feb. 28, alumnus Elyse (Hershenson) Evans, main anchor WTWO-TV, visits associate professor Mike Conway's broadcast class. (Rescheduled from Feb. 2.)
- March 1-4, Kate Golden, reporter and multimedia producer at Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, visits four classes: Steve Higgs' Environment in the News and Online Journalism classes; Tom French's Story Mechanics class; and Bonnie Layton's Online Journalism class.
- March 2, Speaker Series: Photography panel featuring alumni Michel du Cille, Melissa Farlow and Bill Foley at 7 p.m. at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.
- March 14, Cindy Royal of Texas State University visits Hans Ibold's J460 Devices of Wonder class via Skype. She will host students who travel to SXSW during spring break as well.
- March 23-24, alumna Sheila Lalwani of Georgetown University visits Owen Johnson's J460 and Bonnie Brownlee's J414 and speaks to the Re-scripting Islam conference.
- March 30-31, Roy Peter Clark visits Tom French's classes.
- April 1, alumnae Sally Abbey and Cheryl Jackson will give one-on-one critiques at an Experts Workshop at Ernie Pyle Hall.
- April 7, Dan Ferber, co-author of Changing Planet, Changing Health, talks at 7 p.m. in the Ernie Pyle auditorium.
- April 8, Michael Herman of Communication Services International will host a Q&A with students with public relations interests.
- April 10, Bryan Moss, retired photojournalist and editor of Live in Corydon, talks to two photojournalism classes.
- April 18, A.J. Mast will visit Jim Kelly's J444 and Chris Howell's J344 classes.
