About us
The Indiana University chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has a long tradition at the university.
However, after several years, the chapter was inactive until it was reorganized by then chapter advisor David Adams in the Spring of 2007.
David had a vision for the chapter and the young journalists that he interacted with everyday.
In June 2007, David died in a tragic drowning accident. In his memory, the officers voted to rename the chapter to the David Adams Memorial Chapter.
The Fall 2007 semester was one of great growth and accomplishment for the chapter. Members hosted events, recruited several new members and helped draft a law for the Indiana legislation that would protect high school journalists.
At the 2008 SPJ National Convention, the chapter was named as the Outstanding Campus Chapter of the Year, only a little more than a year after restarting with only four members.
