Student Experiences

Local Media

Students often gain experience by volunteering for local media, such as WFHB community radio.
Students often find places to publish or broadcast their work and hone their journalism skills off-campus at local news outlets.
Some freelance their articles or photographs to various magazines or other publications. Most enjoy internships that further their skill levels.
A few take part-time jobs with local organizations and some students volunteer as public relations developers for nonprofit organizations in the community, producing brochures and crafting awareness campaigns.
Still others find opportunities to submit their work to publications at a variety of IU schools and departments.
