2008 SPJ Spring Conference



You are invited to the Society of Professional Journalists Region 5 conference in scenic Bloomington, Ind.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Tom French (B.A. ‘81) will be the keynote speaker.
The Indiana University School of Journalism will host the Region 5 conference April 4 and 5, bringing professional and student members from Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky together to network and participate in development workshops, and to honor the regional Mark of Excellence award winners.

The Mark of Excellence luncheon will feature keynote speaker Tom French, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter at the St. Petersburg Times. His keynote speech is titled "The Impossibility of the World."

Laura Emerick, arts editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, and Matt Roush, senior critic for TV Guide, will lead a session on reporting arts and entertainment. Other sessions include Video Storytelling for Print Journalists; Getting Your Foot in the Door: Advice from print and broadcast recruiters; and The Training Newsroom.

The weekend kicks off with an opening reception at the IU Art Museum from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April. 4.

Early bird registration for student members is only $45, $65 for professionals. Early bird deadline is Friday, March 7.

The School of Journalism has reserved a block of rooms at the Indiana Memorial Union Biddle Hotel. You may contact the hotel at (800)209-8145 to make reservations. These rooms will be held until March 4, at which point any rooms not booked will be released to the general public.
