Readers,

I have never articulated my feelings in response to any critical views about my decision. I really don't owe anyone anything about it.
Yet sometimes after reading someone's thoughts I wonder how they come to their viewpoint without knowing all of the facts.
Here are just a few. First, I didn't make any decisions without consulting many others, i.e., family, friends, ethicists, etc. Just guessing here, but over 30 doctors examined Chrissy over the six year period. Second, the priest that advised me mostly was not only founder for the Center for Ethics at St. Louis University, but also a member of an international commission on ethics. They met in Rome. My priest was appointed by the Pope. And finally, the doctor who guided me throughout the process only asked for one favor: to battle the "opposition" (for lack of a better word)so that society would better understand the torments of families.
So many instances I could share here, but I won't. It's very difficult to list all of the reasons why and to answer all the critics.

I will leave you with this question: is just being able to breathe...is that living?

Anyone who knew Christine knew she would never wanted to spend the rest of her life in that condition. The decision made by her father, while may not set right with others, he did do what was best for Christine. Its circumstances like this that truly challenges your faith in GOD, but also the love for your children. One thing is for sure, Christine is in a better place now. God Bless!!!

If I am ever in a state, such as Christine’s, in which I have no choice in being photographed for covers of national magazines and no say in whether or not video of myself in my private hospital room should be aired on television, I would hope someone would “pull the plug.”
