The last sentence is very true. "Put yourself in their shoes." The reporter did that and really understood the families situation. So when she resigned from her job i think she did a good thing. I say this because the story is no where near as important than a families mental and emotional well being.

I think the reporter did the right thing because there are somethings that the public doesn't really need to know, like what happened when the family found out their son was dead. The reporter has the right to not write a story if it goes against their moral beliefs. She probably shouldn't have left the job, but I'm sure she will find a new one.

After being forced into an uncomfortable situation, Jennifer chose what was best for the family and quit her job before she could hurt them anymore. At the end of the paper she further justifies her actions with quotes.

I agree with the last statement "put yourselves in their shoes". It was a very sad situation for the family and having the media constantly bothering them made the situation worse. If that happened to one of the media, I'm sure they wouldn't want what they did to the family to happen to them. They would probably want to have their privacy respected without people calling and coming to their house and asking about it.

i think what the reporter did was the right thing because it was not their place to take that action to do anything more. That family probably was overwhelmed enough without having the reporters there. If i was that reporter i would have done the same thing also and left and not told the family what had happened to their son. that is not how i would want to find out. It is also good that she didn't continue with the investigation.

I believe making someone talk about a certain persons death or sickness for a story is wrong. If they don't want to say anything they should not have to. All reporters need to respect their opinions even if it is the story of a lifetime. I highly doubt one will get fired if a family member or friend of the person who is sick, dead, etc. does not wish to talk to a reporter about that certain issue. It's their life and no one should have to intrude like that unnless the people who are being interviewed honestly says it is ok.

I think if I were in this reporters position, I would do exactly what she did, in order to respect the families privacy. They didn't want her there in the first place, therefore, I think leaving, and not returning, was the best thing she could do. Just like Heath said, put yourself in their shoes, those people are extremely hurt, and are grieving. They deserve their privacy, just like you would, if you were in their position. Thank you for allowing me to comment on this story.

I think she did the right thing when it came to resigning from her job. She tried and listen to her boss but all her boss cared about was getting the best story and not about how the family was feeling and how they were sad and really didn't want to talk to anyone. She made the best decision for her not having to put herself in that position anymore because she would probably be in another position like that again because her boss would do that again
