To his readers, Ernie Pyle was a master of telling the story of the little guy, of describing the fears and daily strife of soldiers fighting in World War II.

To Whom It May Concern:

Thanks to all who contributed to this particular story by Ernie Pyle as it hits home to me so directly in the fact that my brother, Lt Hubert L. Kordsmeier was a command pilot of one of the B-29's that flew his 10th mission over Tokyo on March 10, l945. He and his crew lost their lives while dropping the very first incindinary bomb load carried out over Tokoyo which required low level flying over the target.
Hubert was in the 873rd Bomber Squardon, 498th Bomber Group (Very Heavy) stationed on Siapan.
