To his readers, Ernie Pyle was a master of telling the story of the little guy, of describing the fears and daily strife of soldiers fighting in World War II.

I'm a graduate of Indiana University. I can't tell you how many times I walked past Ernie Pyle Hall, only knowing he was a journalist, and not appreciating what that ment. I started reading his articles today because my daughter, a senior at Clemson University, is currently doing her student teaching in a 10th grade Global Studies class. She's getting ready to start teaching her unit on WWII. In preparation for it, she got my 84 year old father to start writing down his experiences as an Army Air Corps engineer on the B-24 Liberator. I have learned more about my own dad from these stories than I have ever known. I saw the article in the paper about the photo of Ernie Pyle being discovered recently and the name of course rang a bell with me. I can't wait for my daughter to visit this site to enhance her lessons for her students. Mr. Pyle's writings have kept me rivited for the last hour! I'm ashamed I wasn't more aware of his celebrity as a student. Thank you for making his work available.

I just wanted to say thank you. I had read about Ernie Pyle, but I had never read his work. I enjoy your site immensely. I'm a baby boomer. My Dad was a WWII vet. As I read the columns, I imagine what my father must have went through during the war. He never talked to me about the war. He died when I was pretty young. In some starnge way, your site has given me a connection to him that I never had before. Thanks again!
