Assistant professor Emily Metzgar’s new piece on the Columbia Journalism Review's website is “Smith-Mundt Reform: In with a whimper?”

The piece follows up on her earlier posts on the site about Smith-Mundt, the 1948 law the prevents U.S. government broadcasters such as Voice of America from being heard in the U.S. A few weeks ago, President Obama signed an act that eliminates the domestic dissemination ban, and Metzgar examines in the article why this move has generated little discussion, when the topic drew much debate last year.
