Three School of Journalism faculty have been honored for their teaching skills and achievements this spring.

Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies Michael Evans, assistant professor Mike Conway and the late Beth Wood, senior lecturer, have received awards from campus and journalism groups.

Evans is the recipient of the Gretchen A. Kemp teaching award, named in honor of Kemp, a longtime faculty member in journalism and the director of the High School Journalism Institute. Kemp established the fellowship shortly before her death in 1987 to recognize and promote outstanding teaching in the school. A recipient is named each year based on nominations by colleagues, students and alumni and a selection process that includes judges from outside journalism who are recognized teachers in their own rights.

Conway received the IU Trustees Teaching Award, established by the IU Board of Trustees in 2000 to honor excellence in teaching. Each academic unit is to give the award each year, based on recommendations of its policy committee.

Wood, who died in November, received the Distinguished Teaching President’s Award, established in 1974 to recognize outstanding teaching, research or service. Read more about her legacy at this IU News Room article.
