| Journalism graduate student Joel Bustamante interviewed Columbus Republican mayoral race winner Kristen Brown during election night coverage. WTIU cameraman Bill Shaw filmed the interview. |
Associate professor Owen V. Johnson’s J200 Reporting, Writing and Editing class each covered the polls in Monroe County and contributed reports to the Herald-Times. Students spent at least an hour in polling places around the area for their articles.
Students in the graduate studies J516 Digital Practicum helped WTIU/WFIU’s news bureau cover election in Bloomington, Kokomo, Columbus and Terre Haute for radio, TV and Web outlets. Students shot video, interviewed candidates, coordinated live phone interviews and phoned in updates for the website and the statewide election coverage site.
“Several wrote scripts in the car ride back for this morning’s radio news wrap up,” said journalism lecturer Bonnie Layton, who directs the digital sequence. And, the students’ work isn’t done. “They have a 4 p.m. deadline today for editing footage.”
Students Kyle Clayton, Haley Nelson and Julie Rawe also volunteered at the WTIU/WFIU.
