Do you have your eye on a certain class you’ve wanted to take? Need a course to fulfill your journalism requirements? Prepare now for early spring registration Oct. 21 to Nov. 19

Director of Advising Services Lauren Kinzer announced this week the procedures for registration. For example, you may need an appointment with an adviser. Spring registration appointments are viewable via OneStart. Go to the Self Service tab, Student Center, Enrollment Dates. Click on the link.

You may register any time on or after your appointment, but the closer you register to your appointment, the more likely you are to get into the courses you want and need. You may register from anywhere you can access the Web.

The spring schedule is now available online. You can access the schedule via OneStart: Self Service tab, Student Center, Academics, Search for Classes, or you may use the registrar’s website. Click on Registration, which is under Students on the left side of the page. Then click Schedule of Classes.

Not sure what you would like to take? Check out the journalism course offerings and their descriptions. Select the appropriate semester.

Not sure what you need to take? You may see your academic advising report in OneStart. In the Academics section, click "My academics and grades," then "View my advisement report." To set up an appointment with an adviser, call undergraduate administrative assistant Linda Long at 855-9248 or drop by her desk in the main office to sign up.

Two School of Journalism courses being offered this spring require an application, due Oct. 15.

Lecturer Nancy Comiskey’s J360 Writing and Editing an Indiana Magazine course involves students in the production of print and online magazine that covers Southern Indiana. The class, which meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:15–12:30 p.m., requires a junior or senior standing a prerequisite of a C- or above in J341, J342, J351, J352 or J463.

To apply, students should electronically submit to Comiskey a 250-word-or-less description of their magazine-related classes and experience along with a short explanation of why they’re interested in the course.

Visiting professor Tom French’s J460 Story Mechanics course will hone narrative skills and coach students on how to thrive inside modern newsrooms. The class for juniors and seniors meets 9:30–10:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and requires a grade of C- or better in one of J341, J342 or J343.

To apply, submit three stories published or written for another class and a brief (no more than one page) description of why you’d like to take this course to French by e-mail or drop it off to his office, EP 212-A.
