SPJ awards four Mark of Excellence honors to IU student media

IU student media snagged four awards at the recent Society of Professional Journalists Region 5 meeting March 26-27 in Chicago.

Members brought home four Mark of Excellence awards for students at the School of Journalism:
  • James Brosher, first place in Feature Photography at a four-year college/university for “Snow Day” photos (these photos will go on to compete in the national competition and awards will be announced at the National Convention in October in Las Vegas);
  • Indiana Daily Student Staff, second place in best all-around daily student newspaper at a four-year college/university;
  • Biz Carson, Peter Stevenson and Brad Zehr, second place in breaking news reporting at a four-year college/university for “Ostrom wins Noble Prize;”
  • Indiana Daily Student Online, third place for best affiliated Web site at a four-year college/university.
IU attendees were MJ Slaby, chapter president; Elvia Malagon, chapter vice-president; Joe Jasinski, chapter treasurer; Chrissy Ashack; Lindsey Erdody; Mary Kenney; and Jake Wright.
