Gena Asher | Nov. 30, 2009
Senior Brian Spegele is one of the top 10 winners in the 50th annual William Randolph Hearst Foundation’s Journalism Awards Program.

Spegele won third place and a $1,000 scholarship in the program, in which 110 undergraduate journalism programs at colleges and universities across the nation are eligible to participate. First place went to Brad Luttrell of University of Kentucky.

Last year, Spegele placed sixth in the contest.

The program had a record 142 students from 75 universities who participated. Samples of winning work can be viewed in the monthly winners section of the Hearst Web site, which will be updated later this week.
