Doctoral student Li Shi will talk about “Globalization as Professionalization: A participant-observation study at a Shanghai metropolitan newspaper” at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in the Ernie Pyle Hall lounge.

Her talk is part of the Research Colloquium series, which gives researchers a chance to present work for feedback and discussion with colleagues.

Shi’s study examines how globalization is affecting photojournalism's progression toward professionalism in China as it is being challenged all at once by a variety of regional and larger forces and trends. The data was collected while Shi served as a participant-observer at the visual department of a metropolitan newspaper in Shanghai during Expo 2010.
