Alumnus Jay Seawell’s work exploring U.S. Civil War enactments in the United Kingdom is the focus of a new feature on NPR’s online “Picture Show.”

NPR reporter Claire O’Neill interviewed Seawell by e-mail to tell the story of his 2009 work in the United Kingdom. Seawell, a recipient of the Hazeltine Travel Scholarship, used his award to explore the appeal of the U.S. Civil War among British history buffs.

Seawell followed re-enactors while spending the summer in the U.K., and he created video documentaries and photo slideshows to describe what he learned.

Seawell, BAJ’09, is now in Chicago pursing a master’s degree in fine arts (photography) at Columbia College. He also is working at the Columbia College Writing Center.
