The Jim Murray Memorial Foundation has selected senior Michael Sanserino as one of seven scholarship winners, a prize worth $7,500 toward education expenses.
The awards honor Jim Murray, a founder of Sports Illustrated in 1953, sports columnist for the Los Angeles Times from 1961-68, winner of the 1990 Pulitzer Prize for commentary and a 14-time winner of the National Sportswriter of the Year Award, among other achievements and recognitions.
The winners of the scholarship are selected from a national essay competition. Winners travel to California in the fall for a special reception and awards banquet.
Sanserino is the second IU winner, following Nate Bethea’s 2005 win.
