Associate Professor Steve Raymer’s article, “Haiti’s Disaster,” appears in the current issue of News Photographer Magazine, the official journal of the National Press Photographers Association.

Under the subhead “For those who have been devoted to covering the impoverished national for many years, Haiti is a long-term commitment – not a student workshop opportunity,” Raymer takes issue with students and freelancers rushing to Haiti after January’s magnitude 7.0 earthquake to build portfolios and take dramatic pictures in the hope of winning contests.

Raymer reported from Haiti several times during the 1980s as a National Geographic staff photographer.
