Professor Emerita Carol Polsgrove’s latest column on her Web site is an interview with Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies Michael Evans, who recounts his nine months among the Inuit people above the Arctic Circle, experiences that inspired several books.

Evans’ most recent work is The Fast Runner: Filming the Legend of Atanarjuat, just released by the University of Nebraska Press. The book, the first of a new series launched by the press, explores and decodes the Inuit film, The Fast Runner, which earned the Camera d’Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival. He also is author of Isuma: Inuit Video Art, and the young adult novel, 68 Knots.

Polsgrove, who launched her Web site earlier this year to cover writers and writing, conducted a Q&A with Evans, which she posted recently.

“It was such a fascinating interview because he’s a great storyteller and had fascinating experiences,” Polsgrove wrote in an e-mail.
