Photo director visits Monday

Gena Asher | Nov. 2, 2007
As deputy director of photography at the Sacramento Bee, Sue Morrow, B.A. ’88, focuses on special projects and works closely with photographers, including Bee photographer Renee Byer, who won this year’s Pulitzer Prize for feature photography.
Monday, she’ll bring her stories about working on such projects and her advice to students in Jim Kelly’s J344 Photojournalism Reporting, 9:30 in EP 210, and J463 Publication Design I, 11:15 a.m. in EP 210.
Morrow started working in visual arts as a student at John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, but shifted her focus to journalism. She’s worked as a designer at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, picture editor at the Boston Globe, photo assignments editor at the San Jose Mercury News, design director for the St. Petersburg Times and, in 2005, took her current job at the Bee.
She’s also taught at workshops, including the Poynter Institute and Stan Kalish Picture Editing workshops. She has judged competitions for both the Society of News Design and the Picture of the Year contests.
Morrow will show recent work from the Bee, including Byers’ award-winning portrayal of a single mother and her young son as he loses his battle with cancer.
