Associate professor Radhika Parameswaran presented "Beauty, Race and Resistance: Colorism and its Counter Discourses in India," at the South Asian Feminist Studies Conference at IU March 5.

The research she presented at the conference is the next phase of her previously published work on representations of skin color, beauty and identity in advertising images in India. In this research-in-progress, she is studying how journalists, film-makers, ordinary citizens in India and the Indian diaspora, playwrights and celebrities are resisting and challenging the media's promotion of skin color discrimination in India.
