Panel to feature alumni magazine editors

The School of Journalism's last Speaker Series event of the year will feature four alumni working as editors of top magazines in a panel discussion at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Ernie Pyle Hall auditorium. The Speaker Series events are free and open to the public.

The Nov. 15 panel includes:

Christie Griffin
BAJ’04, digital director of Fitness magazine

christie griffin
Christie Griffin oversees editorial efforts on FitnessMagazine.com as well as helps with branding strategies across all platforms, including mobile, apps and tablet editions. Prior to joining Fitness, she was senior Web editor at Cosmopolitan.com, where she led the editorial efforts to relaunch the site in 2007, the first redesign in seven years. She was also part of a small team that worked on Cosmo Mobile, which won a Webby in 2008. Before her five years at Cosmopolitan, Griffin was at CosmoGirl and CosmoGirl.com. She is a contributing author to the book, Cheerleading: From Tryouts to Championships.


Colin Kearns

Colin Kearns
The first story Colin Kearns wrote for the Indiana Daily Student was about the IU Bass Fishing Club. More than 10 years later, he's still writing about bass for Field & Stream–as well as editing features, cover packages and sections for the magazine, producing content for FieldandStream.com, and overseeing the brand's marketing programs. In the four years Kearns has worked at Field & Stream, the magazine has been nominated for seven National Magazine Awards, winning for General Excellence in 2009. Before joining Field & Stream, Kearns was the associate editor at Salt Water Sportsman. He is a frequent guest speaker to classes at the School of Journalism.


Chad Millman

Chad Millman
Chad Millman joined ESPN The magazine in 1998, shortly after its launch, working as an associate editor, then editor, before his latest promotion. He also blogs about sports gambling for ESPN, and is the author of Iceman: My Fighting Life with Chuck Lidell, and They Call Me Baba Booey. He is co-author with Shawn Coyne of two best-sellers, The Odds and The Ones Who Hit the Hardest. Millman started his career at Sports Illustrated.

Chandra Turner
Chandra Czape Turner’s many years of moving up the magazine ladder led her to the top editorial position at Parents, the country’s leading parenting magazine with 15 million readers. She has served as the executive editor of CosmoGirl and has been an editor at Ladies’ Home Journal, Cosmopolitan, YM and Glamour. She is founder and president of Ed2010, a networking and mentoring organization committed to helping aspiring and junior-level editors reach their dream magazine jobs.
