Each year, IU’s School of Journalism honors one professor with the Gretchen A. Kemp Faculty Development Award. This award, endowed by the late professor Gretchen Kemp who taught in the school from 1948 to 1974, recognizes excellence in teaching.
Nominations are due Friday, Nov. 19, to sojkemp@indiana.edu or, if you prefer to send a hard copy, send to SOJ Kemp Committee, School of Journalism, Ernie Pyle Hall 200, Indiana University, 940 E. Seventh St., Bloomington IN 47405-1708. Nominations don’t have to be lengthy letters but should list reasons you believe your nominee is an outstanding teacher.
According to the terms of Kemp’s endowment, all full-time faculty members in the school are eligible with a few exceptions. Visiting professors, adjunct and associate instructors are not eligible. Also not eligible are the most recent Kemp Fellows, who include associate professor Tony Fargo, assistant professor Lesa Hatley Major and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies Michael Evans.
Whom can you nominate? Professors Jack Dvorak, Shannon Martin, David Nord, Steve Raymer, David Weaver, Lars Willnat; associate professors David Boeyink, Bonnie Brownlee, Mike Conway, Claude Cookman, Owen Johnson, Jim Kelly, Radhika Parameswaran; assistant professors Hans Ibold, Jae Kook Lee, Emily Metzgar, Joann Wong; lecturers Nancy Comiskey, Dennis Elliott, Bonnie Layton, Steve Layton, Teresa White, Craig Wood.
Indianapolis faculty who are eligible are Jonas Bjork, Pam Laucella, Bob Dittmer and Sherry Ricchiardi.
