As part of its 100th anniversary, the National Press Club is presenting “The Centennial Forum on The First Amendment, Freedom of the Press and the Future of Journalism" around the country. The Indianapolis event is at 5 p.m. Dec. 2 in the Lilly Auditorium of the library at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, 755 W. Michigan St. It is free and open to the public.
School of Journalism Newswire editor Anne Kibbler and others at the school are facilitating the event, which includes a panel discussion. Panelists include Dennis Ryerson, editor and vice president of the Indianapolis Star; Bob Zaltsberg, editor of the Bloomington Herald-Times; Cheryl Jackson, visiting professor of broadcast journalism at IU and a former news reporter at WRTV-6 in Indianapolis; and Emily Metzgar, assistant professor of journalism who specializes in the impact of social media on the political process.
National Press Club president Sylvia Smith, Washington correspondent for the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, will moderate.
