Former CNN broadcaster Andrea Koppel visits Monday.
Broadcaster Andrea Koppel kicks off the School of Journalism’s spring Speaker Series with her talk, "The Accidental Journalist," 7 p.m. Monday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave.

A broadcaster for more than 20 years, Koppel worked for 14 years as a correspondent for CNN, leaving that company last July. She reported from diverse posts, from Africa to China, covering three secretaries of state and two presidents. She served as the CNN’s Beijing bureau chief and correspondent, reporting on more than half of China’s 30 provinces. Most recently, she was congressional correspondent for the network. Koppel will talk about her experiences covering news in Japan and China and will also talk about opportunities for young journalists in the 21st century.

She is the daughter of former ABC Nightline anchor Ted Koppel, who also reported on state department matters, including covering Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in the 1970s. Ted Koppel now reports for the Discovery Channel and National Public Radio.

As with all of the Speaker Series events, Koppel’s talk is free and open to the public.
