Kelly presents awards at IPA

Gena Asher | Nov. 3, 2008
Associate professor Jim Kelly represented the school at the 123rd meeting of the Inland Press Association in Chicago Oct. 27 and presented awards for the annual News Picture Contest sponsored by the School of Journalism.

Contest judges included Denny Simmons of the Evansville Press & Courier and Matt Detrich of the Indianapolis Star, both of whom visited the school recently to judge the awards.

Other schools sponsoring contests include University of Missouri, Northwestern University, University of Kentucky and University of Kansas.

Kelly also attended a session, "The Future Newspaper Franchise: New Business Models Can Make Opportunities out of Adversity," presented by Jim Chisholm, newspaper strategy expert at iMedia, Lille, France. Chisholm thinks newsrooms are still overstaffed and that they will continue to shrink in size over the next 10 years.
