They and other recipients will receive their rings in a ceremony Saturday at Assembly Hall, then will be introduced to the crowd during a first quarter timeout of the IU football game at Memorial Stadium. In February, IU women’s swimming won its third straight conference title and fourth in five years.
Farrell, a senior journalism major from Woodbury, Conn., is a four-time All-American. In August she set an IU record in the 100-meter freestyle at the World University Games in China. She's also an Academic All Big Ten selection. She hopes to swim for France in next year's Olympics in London.
Johnson, a member of the journalism faculty since 1980, is starting his 15th year as the public address announcer for IU swimming. He was recently invited to serve as announcer at the NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships in March.
In February, Farrell, who holds dual U.S. and French citizenship, visited Johnson's class, J418 In the Footsteps of Ernie Pyle, to give the students a quick course in the basics of the French language.
