The 2008 Arbutus Yearbook received a Best in Show David L. Adams Apple Award and a Silver Crown at the College Media Advisers conference in New York City last week and the Indiana Daily Student received two back-to-back Gold Grown awards for the Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 semesters. The IDS was the only college newspaper in the country to received two Gold Crowns.The Columbia Scholastic Press Association awards prizes to scholastic (middle, junior and senior high school) and collegiate publications at Columbia University in New York City each year. Crown Awards are the highest recognition given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association to a student print or online medium for overall excellence.
Staffers from the Arbutus, INside, idsnews.com and the IDS also received more than two dozen individual Gold Circle awards, including: first place, IDS photo staff, 2008 Little 500 coverage; first place, Ellis Latham-Brown, IDS editorial page portfolio and feature page design; first place, Larry Buchanan, IDS single editorial page and feature package design; and first place, Allie Townsend, INside magazine non-fiction article.
