“The Pipeline to Publication: Student research output in mass communication journals” appears in the latest issue of Journalism and Mass Communication Educator. Hai Tran of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina is the author of the study, which looked at 10 years of research published in 13 refereed journals.
IU ranked second in number of articles (adjusted for multiple authors) among 20 schools. Michigan State was third, North Carolina fourth and Missouri fifth.
In the report, Tran says two-thirds of doctoral programs and a third of master’s programs expect students to publish their work.
Last fall, IU topped Wisconsin in a similar study by Arizona State University assistant professor Serena Carpenter.
