IU’s James Brosher, BAJ’10, was named Indiana College Photojournalist of the Year for the second year in a row and senior Ryan Dorgan was runner up, the Indiana News Photographers Association announced Saturday at its annual conference at Ball State University in Muncie.

Dorgan was on hand for the honors, along with journalism student Heather Brogden, who watched the judging Saturday. Associate professor Jim Kelly and students Mike Wolanin, Stephanie Kuzydym, Gabrielle Gonzalez, Chet Strange, Peter Stevenson, Olivia Corya and Brogden also attended the Friday speaker sessions.

Brosher now is a staff photographer at the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle in Cheyenne.

Nearly 40 participants submitted 559 single images in categories such as news, feature, sports and portrait/personality, as well as video/multimedia entries.

Robert Scheer of the Indianapolis Star, who critiqued students’ work at a Bloomington News Photographers Association session Jan. 19, won the multimedia category for his video about urban farming.

Herald-Times photojournalist and journalism adjunct lecturer Chris Howell won three honorable mentions in the sports/action category.
