Gena Asher | Nov. 3, 2008
The Indiana Daily Student received a Pacemaker Award at the Associated Collegiate Press conference in Kansas City last weekend and IDSNews.com and the 2007 Arbutus also were finalists for this top award. Students working in IU media also won awards.

ACP and the Newspaper Association of America Foundation have co-sponsored the Newspaper Pacemaker competition since 1971, though ACP began the awards in 1927.

Judges select Pacemakers based coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, design, photography, art and graphics.

The IDS editors for the time period of the award were Trevor Brown and Carrie Ritchie.

In addition to the IDS, IDSNews and Arbutus awards, the ACP honored these IU students:
  • Features, first place: Brian Spegele
  • Illustration, second place: Mark Koenig
  • Picture story, second place: Jacob Kriese
  • Special section, second place: Orienter staff
  • Magazine design, third place: Adrienne Dye
  • Feature photo, honorable mention: Pete Stuttgen
  • Display advertisement, honorable mention: Katie Rogers
