IDS staffers pick up five awards in state contest

This is IDS photographer James Brosher’s award-winning photo, "Snowed in." It took first prize in the Indiana Collegiate Press Association contest Dec. 5.
Indiana Daily Student staffers earned three first places, a second and a third at the Hoosier State Press Association’s collegiate division annual awards ceremony Saturday at IUPUI.

IDS winners were:
  • Carrie Shedler and Brad Zehr, first place for feature story, “Jackson’s hometown remembers icon.”
  • James Brosker, first place photo, “Snowed in.”
  • DeAntae Prince, first place for sports story, “Swiping bases.”
  • Indira Dammu, second place for opinion writing, ”A culture of rape.”
  • Alyssa Goldman, third place for a news story, “A story never told.”

IU students also attended the HSPA workshops. Junior Haley Adams, Indiana Collegiate Press Association vice president/newspapers, and IDS adviser and ICPA board member Ruth Witmer also attended the weekend’s events.
