Chapter president Mary Reisert, officers Lydia Cox and Ali Meyer, members Ana Livia Campoy Coelho and Justine Carlotta are joining Ralph Winslow Visiting Professor Jim Bright and lecturer Beth Wood on the trip.
While the two faculty members will network with fellow educators and public relations professionals, the students will have the opportunity to meet with their counterparts from university chapters across the United States.
Bright said that the conference aims to facilitate interaction among public relations professionals from the corporate, agency, nonprofit, government and education fields. It will also provide professionals an opportunity to learn about new trends in the communications business.
Wood said that, due to the relatively close proximity of Detroit, the School of Journalism would be able to partially fund five students to the conference this year. Last year, only two students attended the conference in Philadelphia.
“We hope to bring back good contacts for the students and current trends on public relations,” Wood said. “I look forward to hearing from some high quality keynote speakers at the conference.
The group itself will be adding to that “high quality” environment. The IU School of Journalism’s program will be recognized during the conference as one of the 20 universities to meet PRSA standards. PRSA recommended certification after evaluating the school during an onsite visit in February.
