Global communications pro visits this week

Ken Jaques, president of Global Communication Strategies, will speak on “The Evolution of Media and Media Relations in the Former Soviet Bloc” when he visits campus this week for two open lectures and some class visits.

An overview of the problems of transition that confronted media, business, and governments on the territory of the former Warsaw Pact in the last two decades, his talk will also address the recent conflict between Georgia and Russian in the context of the “media war,” which it generated.

He talks to Winslow Visiting Professor Jim Bright’s J428 Public Relations Planning class at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the IMU Oak Room, and anyone may attend this talk. Jaques will lead an informal disucssion at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Ernie Pyle Lounge. Wednesday, he’ll talk to associate professor Owen V. Johnson’s J410 Media as Social Institutions class.

Jaques has worked extensively as a communications and business consultant to the U.S. government and the governments of Georgia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Croatia and Russia. He also served as press secretary to U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg for many years and as a reporter for leading news organizations such as CNN and Congressional Quarterly magazine.
