Gillis’ paper examines the anti-media rhetoric and activism of Jefferson County, Ky., residents involved in a movement to overturn a court-ordered busing plan for the racial integration of the county’s public schools. The anti-busing campaign included a massive boycott of the area’s two major newspapers, both of which supported the busing order.
The article originated as a paper in assistant professor Mike Conway‘s J650 History and Philosophy of the Media class in spring 2008.
