German journalists visit Oct. 25-27

Gena Asher | Oct. 19, 2010
The German-American Journalist Exchange sponsored by the RIAS Berlin Kommission and the Radio and Television News Directors Foundation brings two German journalists to the area next week to talk about broadcast media issues in Germany and the U.S.

Matthias Veit of WDR in Cologne and Maren Beuscher of ZDF and 3Sat in Berlin arrive Oct. 24 for a weeklong stay during which they will host a discussion, visit classes and tour area media outlets. The talk, "International Perspectives on Elections and the Economy," is at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, in the Ernie Pyle Hall lounge.

The two will talk to several classes while in Bloomington, then travel to Indianapolis to work with broadcasters at WXIN-59.

The School of Journalism has participated in the RIAS program for several years by hosting the German journalists and by helping to send students to Berlin. Alumni Kaylyn Easton, BAJ ’09, and Kevin Grieves, PhD ’09, visited Berlin as IU journalism students. Associate professor Mike Conway and doctoral student Rosemary Pennington were RIAS fellows at their respective schools.
