Visiting professor Tom French’s new book, Zoo Story, will be released July 6.

Based on six years of reporting and writing, the nonfiction work takes readers inside Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. French said “the main characters are an alpha chimp with a preference for blonde human females, a ferocious Sumatran tiger and a brilliant but tyrannical CEO known to his staff as El Diablo Blanco.”

French, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his work at the St. Petersburg Times, also is author of A Cry in the Night and South of Heaven, both books based on his narrative reporting projects.
