Based on six years of reporting and writing, the nonfiction work takes readers inside Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. French said “the main characters are an alpha chimp with a preference for blonde human females, a ferocious Sumatran tiger and a brilliant but tyrannical CEO known to his staff as El Diablo Blanco.”
French, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his work at the St. Petersburg Times, also is author of A Cry in the Night and South of Heaven, both books based on his narrative reporting projects.
