Franklin chairs ASNE contest

Louis A. Weil Jr. Endowed Chair and Director of the National Sports Journalism Center Tim Franklin chaired the non-deadline writing contest for the American Society of News Editors national journalism awards Feb. 13-14 at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Franklin, an ASNE director and member of the organization's Awards Board, also judged all of the other contest categories. The non-deadline winner was David Rohde of The New York Times, who wrote a narrative on his kidnapping by the Taliban and later his daring escape.
