Nine journalism scholars from universities around the nation are winners of the Roy W. Howard National Collegiate Reporting Competition, the Scripps Howard Foundation announced Monday.
The winners receive a 13-day, all expense paid trip to Japan and South Korea this summer to explore media practices in those Asian countries. IU School of Journalism Dean Brad Hamm will lead the trip for the third consecutive year.
The foundation sponsors the writing competition in conjunction with the IU School of Journalism to honor the memory of Roy W. Howard, who led Scripps Howard Newspapers from 1922-1953 and United Press International from 1912-1920. The School of Journalism houses the Roy W. Howard archive, a collection of the newsman’s papers and correspondence, including accounts of his travels to Asia.
No students from IU won this year. For a complete list of winners and their credentials, visit the Scripps Howard Foundation Web site.
