SoJ Web Report | Nov. 13, 2011
Two filmmakers from ESPN’s 30 for 30 series, Billy Corben and Thadeus Matula, will be on campus Nov. 18 for a series of events, including film screenings and discussions.

Corben will kick off the day with a 9:30 a.m. screening his film, The U, in Woodburn Hall, with a Q&A session afterward. The film examines the building of the University of Miami football dynasty in the 1980s and the cultural impact that the team had on both the city of Miami and the college football world as a whole.

At 2:30 p.m., Corben and Matula will host a discussion on documentary filmmaking and college sport in Woodburn Hall 120. At 3:30 p.m., the day concludes with a screening of Pony Excess, Matula’s documentary on the rise and fall of the Southern Methodist University football program in the 1980s.

The daylong event is sponsored by the Sport Management, Marketing and Communication program, in conjunction with the Department of Kinesiology, the School of Journalism, the Department of Communication and Culture, the IU Sport Marketing Alliance and the IU Sport Communication Club. For more information, contact Galen Clavio, director of the Sport Management, Marking and Communication program.
