The contest awards five $5,000 print journalism scholarships through a nationwide essay competition. Preference is for students pursuing careers in sports journalism.
The awards honor Jim Murray, a founder of Sports Illustrated in 1953, a sports columnist for the Los Angeles Times from 1961-68, a winner of the 1990 Pulitzer Prize for commentary and a 14-time winner of the National Sportswriter of the Year Award, among other achievements.
In addition to the scholarship prize, winners travel to California in the fall for a special reception and awards banquet.
The committee at the school will select one essay to send to the national contest. Deadline to enter is noon April 25.

- See a flyer about the contest.

- Submit all materials to Linda Long in the main office or email all materials to her no later than noon April 25.
