SoJ Web Report | April 13, 2011
Have an interest in sports journalism? Consider entering the 11th annual Jim Murray Memorial Foundation's essay competition for a shot at winning a $5,000 scholarship.

The contest awards five $5,000 print journalism scholarships through a nationwide essay competition. Preference is for students pursuing careers in sports journalism.

The awards honor Jim Murray, a founder of Sports Illustrated in 1953, a sports columnist for the Los Angeles Times from 1961-68, a winner of the 1990 Pulitzer Prize for commentary and a 14-time winner of the National Sportswriter of the Year Award, among other achievements.

In addition to the scholarship prize, winners travel to California in the fall for a special reception and awards banquet.

The committee at the school will select one essay to send to the national contest. Deadline to enter is noon April 25.
