Doctoral student Spring-Serenity Duvall will teach two original courses at IU in the spring semester for two other departments.

Based on her dissertation and thesis research, the courses will be offered by the Global Village Living-Learning Center and the Gender Studies Department. The Global Village course was selected after a competitive proposal process that included reviews by student and faculty committees.

The courses are:

GLLC-G 220 Celebrity Colonialism: Transnational Media and Social Activism will examine popular and news media, documentary films and speeches that construct, critique and sustain celebrity colonialism. (Global Village Living-Learning Center)

GNDR-G 104 Titanic to Twilight: A Decade of Girl-Powered Media Production, Consumption and Text will draw on interdisciplinary Girls Studies theory, using an in-depth examination of Twilight as a starting point from which to explore contemporary media targeted at girls and the culture of girl-produced media. (Gender Studies)
