Roy W. Howard professional-in-residence Joe Coleman took part in a “teach-in” on the crisis in Japan Wednesday evening at the Whittenberger Auditorium.

His talk, “Japanese and World Media Reactions,” was one of seven presented at “A Community-Campus Response to the Crisis in Japan: A teach-in and benefit event” organized by the office of IU provost Karen Hanson as a way to discuss the earthquake and nuclear reactor disaster in Japan.

Coleman lived in Japan several years and was Associated Press bureau chief in Tokyo. His wife’s family and many of his friends from his work with AP still are in that country. He recently wrote about his personal reaction to the crisis in a Herald-Times commentary.

The evening included a musical piece and a Q&A session, and organizers offered donation boxes for contributions to relief efforts.
