CNN’s Lui lecture highlights Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Broadcaster Richard Lui visits April 6.
Broadcaster Richard Lui will visit the school April 6 for a lecture that highlights IU’s observance of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

Based at CNN’s world headquarters in Atlanta, Lui is a news anchor for HLN, serving as an anchor for the network’s late morning programming and as a news correspondent for Morning Express with Robin Meade. As a CNN reporter, he has covered breaking news in Singapore and Indonesia. Previously, he worked at Channel NewsAsia as anchor, producer and co-host.

He’ll talk about his work at a free lecture at 7 p.m. April 6 in the Ernie Pyle auditorium, room 220. The School of Journalism is co-sponsoring his lecture with the Asian American Studies Program and the IU Asian Culture Center.

Other events during the month include:
  • Taste of Asia, 5:30 p.m. April 16 in the IU Auditorium, featuring samples of Asian cuisine from various restaurants in Bloomington as well as a talent show. (Free)
  • Asian Fest, 10 a.m. May 1 at the Showers City Hall Atrium and Outdoor Stage area at Eighth and Morton streets (in conjunction with the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market).
  • State of Asian Pacific America House Party, 4 p.m. May 2 at the IU Asian Culture Center, 807 E. 10th St. Students at IU Bloomington will be joined by conference call with people at house parties all over the country by Asian Pacific Americans for Progress.
