Former IU student Jim Turpin, director of news and content for Clear Channel Communications’ domestic TV station group, will visit Friday to talk to students about careers in broadcast.

Space for the 1 p.m. session in EP 214 is limited, so those interested should talk to assistant professor Mike Conway to secure a seat.

Turpin said he will talk about what it takes to not only land a job in broadcast news, but to excel in it. Currently, he is responsible for providing direction, training and other assistance to 12 of the company’s news departments. He also trains employees at the remaining 13.

Turpin, who is based in Memphis, serves as news director of the company’s duopoly in Memphis, WPTY-TV, the ABC-TV affiliate, and WLMT-TV, the CW affiliate.
