School of Journalism doctoral student
Jeff Cannon will talk on his research, "Warriors, Legends and Icons: The philosophy and analysis of sports media narrative," at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the Ernie Pyle Hall lounge. His talk is one of a series of Research Colloquia presented this fall as a way for researchers to present their work and get feedback from colleagues. All are welcome to attend.
Cannon will talk about his research into the way sports stories operate in the cultural domain and their interaction with moral order. He uses three overarching domains of implicit meaning: the story’s influence upon the rules of order, the stories people tell and the iconic values people use to order experience. As an example, Cannon considers the coverage of golfer Tiger Woods.
