Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies Michael Evans and journalism student Emily Campion have been working to arrange the meeting to introduce students to this organization.
Journalists for Human Rights is an international organization based in Canada. It has chapters throughout Canada but only a few in the United States.
“Our chapter would let IU position itself in a leadership role in this area,” said Evans.
The focus is human rights worldwide and how journalists can strengthen them. Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are two major concerns, but the organization is interested in all ways that journalists can support human-rights movements domestically and abroad.
