Presidential historian Michael Beschloss wraps up the School of Journalism’s Spring Speaker Series with his talk based on his latest book, Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America 1789-1989, at 7 p.m. Monday in the IU Auditorium.

Currently the on-air presidential historian for NBC news, Beschloss previously studied leadership at the Harvard Business School and has written several best sellers, including The Conquerors: Roosevelt, Truman and the Destruction of Hitler’s Germany, 1941-1945, Taking Charge: The Johnson White House Tapes, 1963-1964, and Reaching for Glory.

Beschloss adds a unique perspective to round out the Spring Speaker Series as a nontraditional journalist, said Amy Reynolds, associate dean of graduate students in the School of Journalism. His views are especially timely in light of the presidential primaries underway across the country, including Indiana’s May 6.

“In the midst of an interesting election, it just makes sense,” Reynolds said of inviting Beschloss to speak.

Beschloss’s talk is free and open to the public. Previous speakers this spring included former CNN broadcaster Andrea Koppel and The New York Times’  William Safire.
