ASME sponsors a 10-week summer internship at magazines in New York and Washington, D.C. Interns are paid a minimum of $350 a week before deductions. ASME arranges group housing in university dorms. Some students stay with family or friends.
The School of Journalism may nominate two students. Only full-time students with a grade point average of at least 3.0 within the major will be accepted. The school's nominees will be selected by a faculty committee.
Applications must include:
- Completed application form downloaded from the ASME website;
- A letter of recommendation from an educator who can attest to the applicant's abilities and experience (ask for this letter immediately);
- No more than five clips from a college newspaper or magazine or from a newspaper or magazine where the applicant has worked;
- A nonrefundable processing fee of $25 (payable only if you are nominated).
Complete applications are due to EP202, the journalism career services office, by 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12.
